FOR PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS OF CHILDREN WITH EATING DISORDERS AND OTHER MENTAL HEALTH CONCERNS

Being the parent or primary caregiver of a teen or young adult struggling with a mental health diagnosis particularly, an eating disorder, can pose challenges you may have never thought you would face as a parent.

Often the process of supporting a child who is struggling is difficult, disappointing, frustrating, and confusing. This space can be helpful if you are feeling at a loss as to how to deal with your teen who may be dealing with depression, anxiety, or an eating disorder. How do you parent a child who needs boundaries but also extra care and concern? How do you discipline without your child threatening self-harm?

My goal is to provide a safe and accepting space for you, your partner, and any siblings to process how this is affecting you and your family unit.

Often this is combined with individual treatment for your child, however it does not have to be. Some parents may come in needing a safe space to be honest about what’s hard and are at their wits end figuring out how to support a teen or young adult who honestly may not want the support or help.

Parent sessions are not a time to meet with your child’s therapist and gain access to details of confidential sessions between therapist and client. This time is dedicated solely to helping the family unit work together and work through frustrations and stressors so that everyone can heal together.

FAQS

What is the cost of a parent session?

I am an out of network provider for all insurance plans. I accept credit cards, Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), Health Reimbursement Account (HRAs), Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), cash and check. I require a card on file at all times. Payment is due at the time of service.

Parent sessions are billed at $165 per 55 minute session.

At your request, I will provide a superbill at the end of each month which you are able to submit directly to your insurance provider for direct reimbursement of any eligible out of network benefits you may have.

Who should attend my parent session?

Parent sessions are really for the entire family/support system whatever that unique combination may be; mom, dad, stepparents, grandparents, siblings, aunts/uncles it is really at your discretion.

I do ask that the primary client typically not attend parent sessions as this is meant to be a space for you as the caregiver to be open and honest. We will decide together what is therapeutically necessary to share with he primarily client whether that be in individual session or in a separate parent session.

Does my child have to see you if I come for parent support?

Absolutely not, while I often am the primary therapist for the child being discussed there are times that I work with parents who’s children see separate therapists, we can easily create a release of information so that I am able to connect with your son/daughters therapist outside of Robinson Counseling and Wellness.
